Shoka Shimputai - June 2026

Shoka Shimputai Workshop
Teacher: Regina Chang

Shoka Shimputai was introduced by current Headmaster Sen’ei Ikenobo in 1977 as a new style of shoka responding to modern time and sensibilities while simultaneously maintaining the traditional aesthetic. A clear and clean mizugiwa is needed with no more than 3 materials in the arrangement; yet, Shoka Shimputai allows arrangers to express their creativity and intention with limitless variations, without the structure (or form) of a Shofutai style.

This fun Shoka Shimputai workshop that will bring the relationship between you and the plants closer, as you carefully observe them and express their beauty through your eyes and arrangement. Container: Shoka Shimputai container is less traditional than a Shofutai container, although most Shoka Shofutai containers are appropriate. Avoid three-leg bronze traditional containers.
