Quince Isshuike and Jiyuka with a Twist
Shoka Shofutai Isshuike
(Japanese Quince)
Instructor: Masumi Ichikawa Naylor
A Shoka arrangement represents the vigorous growth of a plant with roots firmly extending into the earth. It is composed using only a few floral materials. Isshuike is a shoka arrangement using a single kind of floral material and particularly values the beauty of a plants’ “shussho”: intrinsic properties specific to each plant. Japanese Quince is available from late autumn to early spring, and its branches readily bend into desired shapes. Therefore, it is an ideal floral material for practicing the use of “kimono” (wooden material) with flowers. Container: Traditional shoka container, conservative in color and shape

Jiyuka with a Twist
Teacher: Mimi Santini-Ritt
From Mimi: Students should bring an interesting container suitable for freestyle plus any necessary mechanics (we can supply oasis if needed, please let us know ahead of time). Anything that can hold water is acceptable – be creative! However, you will not be the one using the container you bring. Participants will draw a number associated with a container and use that one for their arrangement. (If you draw the number for the one you brought, you will redraw). Floral materials will be provided. After arrangements have been made, reviewed, and photographed your container will be returned to you -- along with its arrangement.
