"Not only beautiful flowers but also buds and withered flowers have life, and each has its own beauty. By arranging flowers with reverence, one refines oneself" - Ikenobo Senno, 1542

Events hosted by the Boston Chapter

We run monthly workshops focused on a specific style of ikebana from September to June. You can see arrangements from recent workshops in our gallery. Details for upcoming workshops are on our events page, and are also sent to our email list.

If you would like to see what ikebana is all about, you are welcome to observe a workshop at no cost, or participate for the normal fee. If you have just joined Ikebana International, you can participate in one local teacher workshop for the floral material fee.

Workshop teachers

The majority of workshops are led by a certified teacher from our membership. We have two special workshops per year, one taught by a high-ranking US-based teacher and one by a visiting professor from Ikenobo headquarters in Kyoto. Due to the high demand for these special events, participation is limited to current members of the Society of a chapter of the Ikenobo Society of Floral Art.

The cost for individual workshops ranges from $40 - $50, including floral material. For planning purposes, reservations are required and payment must be remitted one week before the workshop. Workshops are held at the First Parish Church, 50 Church Street, Waltham MA 02452, unless otherwise noted. Members of other Ikenobo chapters may participate in any Boston chapter workshop for $10 above the normal fee.

At present, we are only accepting payment by personal check, made out to the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Boston. We hope to roll out online purchases in the coming months as an alternative option.
